Vaka TV Digital Creators Fellowship

A production-embedded fellowship developed and funded by Turtle Town showrunner Pouarii Tanner.

Turtle Town is a reality-based television series being filmed in Rarotonga and premiering on VakaTV under a first broadcast rights agreement, with further regional and international development to follow.

We are offering a fellowship placement to a Cook Islands–based digital creator (individual or pair) who already creates and edits their own content and wants to apply those skills within a professional television production.

This fellowship combines production experience with paid creative work.

What the Fellowship Includes

• Time observing/assisting the filming process on set in Rarotonga with NZ Cinematographer Mike Jonathan (Hunting Aotearoa, Vegas, Merata: How mum decolonised the screen)

…..and Cook Island-based Director Nikki Si’ulepa (Tagata Pasifika).

• Insight into professional production and post-production workflow

• A structured creative brief outlining required promotional assets

Delivery of agreed promotional materials for broadcast and digital platforms Scheduling will be flexible and discussed during shortlisting.

Deliverables will Include

• 30-60 sec show promo to run on Vaka Tv.

• Short-form vertical cut-downs for TikTok and Facebook

• Approved still imagery for digital use.

All filming will be handled by the Turtle Town production team.

Your role focuses on editing and shaping promotional content from provided materials.

This opportunity would suit:

• A young Cook Islander or recent school leaver interested in media

• A student studying creative media or film

• A digital creator already producing short-form content

• Anyone wanting real experience inside a television production

Age is not a factor. We are looking for the right person with strong creative instinct and work ethic.

What You’ll Need

• Access to basic editing equipment of your choice – even a smartphone

• Confidence using your preferred editing software

• Ability to deliver professional broadcast-ready files It does not need to be expensive equipment. What matters is that you know how to use it well.
